2014 – Carnival
High Wycombe came alive with the type of party atmosphere associated with many of the world’s most famous carnivals. Showcasing glamour, culture, parades and much, much more.
Carrying on from the success of the Wonderland/Underland event which took place the previous year. Bucks Live presents – CARNIVAL!” took place on Saturday 29th March 2014. The Event came in two forms; in the day a family themed carnival while the night was transformed into a glamorous Venetian masquerade ball.
The day time event focussed on the fun, family atmosphere associated with many of the world’s most recognisable carnivals, with an exciting array of funfair rides and games, an eclectic mix of world cuisines and many other activities for the whole family. Throughout the event we served up wine and cheese, a variety of crepes, authentic Italian pizza straight from a wood burning fire and even a special Louisiana food stall.
There were multiple stages across the campus with bands and artists from the local area and beyond keeping everybody entertained. Bands and acts from local colleges being given the opportunity to perform at this one off event. There were also many other forms of live entertainment including performances from societies within the university itself, the most memorable perhaps the Cheerleading Society’s spontaneous perfomrances in th centre of the university concourse.
The night time event will focused on the glamorous side of carnivals, with inspiration coming from the masquerade balls associated with the world famous Venice Carnival. This 18+ event had many artists performing, including Mischa and His Merry Men, with Mischa being able to boast Si Genaro, a contestant from the hit TV talent show ‘The Voice’ as one of his ‘Merry Men’.
There were also DJ sets from both students and professionals, burlesque dancers and musical talents you would have rarely see on a normal night out. To get everybody into the carnival spirit there a pre event DJ competition named “Exposure Sessions” was held at the Students’ Union at Bucks New University, with the winner gaining a sort after spot at the event.
